All of these creatures have proven to be highly dangerous, and have taken out as many soldiers as the Black Fins did.

The Black Fin tribe is definitely a product of their surroundings... They're not even the worst threat in that canyon. It's no wonder they've grown so strong, given what else they share territory with.
