Decayed, poisoned, contaminated...I don't know. But the trees showed up in the Gloomy Mire, and the Kerubiels are being led away by Kerubiel Bandits.

Please make your way to the Gloomy Mire and eliminate some of the Kerubiel Bandits.

They're tougher than normal Kerubiels but that shouldn't pose any problem for you, your character.
