Dialog

select1

This Temple of Knowledge is like a second home to me.

It's been more than a hundred years since I began to read the books here. And now I'm in charge of the whole place.

But...the peace of the library has been broken, your class.

Dialog

select1_1

People are suffering from memory lapses--great periods of missing time.

Gantrug was the first to confide in us about it. He said that he visited in the morning to read a philosophy book, and when he stood up to leave, it was night.

And that wasn't the first time it had happened. He's not the only one.

Araison was searching for a book one moment and then the next, he was standing in front of a strange bookshelf as if he'd been teleported there.

I don't know what to do. Something's happening here--the question is, what?

You have a reputation as a Daeva who gets things done. Would you look into what's going on here?

Quest Accept 1

quest_accept_1

I am in your debt, your character.

You should start by visiting Gantrug and Araison, and listening to their stories first-hand. Learn as much as you can...where they were sitting, what they were reading, the time of day. Nothing's irrelevant.

"I'll do my best."

Quest Refuse 1

quest_refuse_1

I've had nobody I could trust to undertake this task for me.

I thought I could trust you, your character. I can't force you, but I'm disappointed and a little hurt.

"I don't want to lose my memory, too."

Dialog

select2

Blessed one, what can I do for you? Shall we sit a while and discuss the relative value of an eternal Daeva lifetime compared to a limited Human span?

I am doing my best to use the time left to me wisely, yet whenever I go to the Temple of Knowledge, the time seems to pass by in an instant.

Dialog

select2_1

Hmm. Well. Whenever I'm reading a book and I come across a word I don't understand, I consult the dictionary.

As I was reading Rottiren's 'A Critique of Epistemology' yesterday, I came across a word I'd never read before, so I went to find a dictionary. The next thing I knew, it was evening.

Come to think of it, I I lost my memory in the same way last time. It's...hard to remember....

"Thanks for your help."

Dialog

select3

Azphelumbra, your character.

Would you like to hear my latest composition? Or do you need me to compose something specially for a lover? I'll recite a poem for anyone who wants one.

Dialog

select3_1

You mean that time I lost my memory? I honestly don't have a clue.

I was browsing the shelves, looking for inspiration. I saw a book where it didn't belong, wedged between two dictionaries. I pulled it out to give it to Dolf. It all goes fuzzy round about there.

It's hard to explain, but if you visit the stack room at the Temple of Knowledge yourself....

"You've been very helpful."

Dialog

select4

(Between two dictionaries, you see a completely unrelated book.)

(The closer you come to it, the dizzier you feel.)

"Perhaps I should leave it here."

Dialog

select5

Have you found Gantrug and Araison? Did they know anything about what happened in the stack room?

Have you found even a clue about the cause of these incidents yet?

Dialog

select5_1

An enchanted book, hidden in the stack room? How fascinating! It must have made those people lose their memories.

But that itself is a greater mystery. How did you find the book without losing your memory? A double enigma! Who would hide such a book, and why? And why are you resistant to the effect?

Well, that's something to ponder another time. That book needs to be stripped of its enchantment.

Dialog

select5_1_1

First, we need to take precautions, so you don't lose your memory.

Fortunately for us, that kind of magic is easily resisted with the proper elixir. I need a Malodor Stamen, a Ampha Tail, and some Slime Sap to make it. To get them, you'll need to go to Altgard and Ishalgen.

Neusa's brilliant at mixing potions, so you should see her about the brewing. Once you've got the potion, pull out the book and bring it to me. I'll take it from there.

"On my way!"

Dialog

select6

You don't need to explain anything, your character. Cavalorn already told me all the details. Did you bring the materials?

Hand them over, and I'll mix you up a fragrant batch of memory-proofing unguents.

"Here they are."

Dialog

select6_1

Hmm. Without Malodor Stamen, Ampha Tail, and Slime Sap, we can't make the medicine.

And without that, you won't be able to pull the book off the shelf. So get me those ingredients, your character

"I'll return soon."

Dialog

select6_2

These will do just fine. Everything else is ready. Wait just a moment, please...yes! And now, the magic touch....

There you go--fully fortified against memory theft! Now try and find the enchanted book again.

"I'll take care of it."

Dialog

select7

(The enchanted book has a strange pattern on the cover but has no title.)

(You take the book.)

Dialog

select8

your character, do you remember me? Do you know where you are?

Neusa said you'd gone to fetch the book. I was worried her unguents wouldn't work, and we'd find you wandering the stacks like a lost soul....

Reward

select_quest_reward1

Oh! Yes. It positively crackles with Aether, doesn't it? You are a true heir of Asmodae.

I'll disenchant this book immediately. Then we'll investigate who did this and why.

I pray the strange occurrences are over now, and yet my instinct tells me they're not. I wonder--is there is a traitor among us, even here in Pandaemonium?

quest_complete

You heard that people were losing their memories while reading books in the Temple of Knowledge. Cavalorn requested you investigate the case.

You discovered a strongly enchanted book between the dictionaries on one of the bookshelves. After receiving Neusa's help, you retrieved the book and brought it to Cavalorn.

Cavalorn thanked you, saying that he would surely find out who did this, and why.
